GREEN REVOLUTION

Green revolution is world good production doubled with the introduction of a new approach to agriculture. The “Green Revolution” no longer appear to be successful. There are a number reason for this. One reason lies in the expense of the new farming methods. Many farmers can’t afford to buy all the chemicals and equipment. Erosion is another reason for the lower grain production. The large scale farming of a single crop creates the perfect conditions for erosion. Beside that, chemical have other effects that are expensive in the long run. They flow into the ground water, causing pollution and health problems. Finally, the “Green Revolution” has brought about social and political conflict that has interfered with food production. Clearly, it is time to question the methods of the green revolution. Governments and farmers need to find new methods that will better meet the needs of the world’s hungry people and will also be less destructive.

Thomas Robert Maltus say “Increase of society amount like geometry line, and increase of food production amount like arithmetic line”.. This statement will make us worried in future, if increase of society more than increase of food production amount. The shadow of famine will always become ghost to us. So, it is needed great solution for minimizing birth rate of society. These are three ways that will be explained for minimizing birth rate, announce KB programs, postpone married time, and decide children duty.

Announce KB programs have function to limit children amount in a family. KB (Family Planning) is an Indonesia government programs which compel in family have two children only. That has purpose in order to society birthrate can be controlled. If in one of family has had two children, so reproduction process of this couple will be stopped with many kind safety ways. Every month, government will give facilities in order to KB programs can be done. But, in fact, this ways doesn’t get positive response from society now. It is caused society thinks this activity isn’t give advantages.

Postpone of married time also can increase birthrate. This statement can assumption to married in ideals age. Why? Because in young age, they only think about happiness and doesn’t think the effect in future. Beside that, if they married in young age, automatic they have reproduction phase more than ideals age. Government contend it with decide limited age of person that may get married. But, this regulation doesn’t get positive response. Because the teenager that have labile emotion only think about happiness. Free sex is thought as usual activity in teenager world. If pregnancy have happened, they must married in that time. Other problems appear cause culture in one of community that allow married in young age is one of habit in that community.

The way that use in korea now is give subsidy for family that have enough children and decide children duty for family that have more children. In this way, each family must think about economic condition before decide to have more children. Beside family burden increase, they also must pay children duty every increased children.

From the explain above, we can choose one of way that give great solution to decrease birth rate in the world, generally and Indonesia.
